PRODUCTION OF SKIN FRIENDLY HAND DISINFECTANT WITH FERULIC ACID OBTAINED FROM WHEAT BRAN BY SUPERCRITICAL FLUID EXTRACTION METHOD USING EXTRACTS FROM VALUABLE PLANTS SUCH AS SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM (CLOVE), LAVENDULA (LAVENDER), THYMUS (THYME), CITRUS (ORANGE, LEMON)
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2023/191756
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Unfortunately, as a result of our bad experiences with Covid-19 about social hygiene and the spread of diseases, we have once again understood the importance of disinfectants and started to be more meticulous about the cleanliness of the contacted environments. The process of destroying pathogenic microorganisms on living or inanimate surfaces in such an environment is called disinfection, and the substances used for disinfection are called disinfectants. Since the disinfectants used in general comprise high amounts of alcohol and its derivatives, they cause undesirable side effects such as drying, burning, cracking, and itching (dermatitis) on the skin. However, on the contacted surface, it triggers cell renewal and ageing, causing chronic skin diseases such as eczema. In order to alleviate and/or eliminate all these negative situations, the foundation for the creation of this product has been laid and has already been produced. This product has emerged with the thought that it will provide a positive benefit in this area.

Claims:
CLAIMS Production of skin-friendly hand disinfectant with ferulic acid obtained from wheat bran using extracts obtained from valuable plants such as Syzygium aromaticum (clove), Lavandula (lavender), Thymus (thyme), Citrus (orange, lemon) by means of supercritical liquid carbon dioxide extraction method; wherein, while it stands out because it is a disinfectant product obtained from extracts of valuable plants without leaving chemical fingerprints, ferulic acid extracted from wheat bran will be a first in the world in terms of both contributing to the national economy in terms of recycling and adding it into the disinfectant, UV protection on the skin and moisturising the skin with oils from plant extracts. Eugenol as the dominant active ingredient of Syzygium aromaticum (clove) takes part in skin regeneration, Lavandula (lavender) is the dominant active ingredient, while linalyl acetate stands out with its skin regenerating and immune function; wherein although it is known that thymol, which is abundant in thymus (thyme), keeps the skin moist by preventing eczema and dandruff, Citrus (orange, lemon) is known to have positive effects against skin wrinkles while preventing acne formation on the skin due to its richness in ascorbic acid. Although the antimicrobial properties of all plants mentioned in claim 2 are known, in addition to this effect, ferulic acid, which will be extracted from wheat bran, has been added to act as a UV filter on the skin and to act as a moisturiser together with plant extracts, and ethanol was added to increase the effectiveness of the disinfection process and to stabilize the molecules. With the skin-friendly expression mentioned in Claim 1 , it is meant that it is provided by using extracts obtained as a result of the extraction of our domestic and national products, which are obtained completely naturally and do not contain any chemicals.
Description:
PRODUCTION OF SKIN FRIENDLY HAND DISINFECTANT WITH FERULIC ACID OBTAINED FROM WHEAT BRAN BY SUPERCRITICAL FLUID EXTRACTION METHOD USING EXTRACTS FROM VALUABLE PLANTS SUCH AS SYZYGIUM

AROMATICUM (CLOVE), LAVENDULA (LAVENDER), THYMUS (THYME) , CITRUS (ORANGE, LEMON)

Technical Field

The invention relates to products that are effective against pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and viruses) and are also used as skin moisturisers and surface cleaners.

State of the Art

In general, moisturizing hand sanitizer refers to antimicrobial hand sanitizers that include alcohols that kill bacteria while also moisturizing the wearer's skin. More particularly, alcohol-based hand sanitizers have a high internal phase emulsion, which ensures the stable integration of moisturizers or skin protectants into the disinfection, such as emollients and/or silicones. It is, however, for a moisturizing hand sanitizer including water, alcohol, and a high internal phase emulsion. An emulsifier and a skin protectant from the group consisting of an emollient, silicone, and combinations thereof are present in the high internal phase emulsion. The high internal phase emulsion contains an aqueous phase of about 30% (by weight of the emulsion) or less. The intended use of alcohol in moisturising hand sanitiser is to provide the disinfectant with microbiocidal properties against most bacteria and fungi, while alcohol has the ability to suitably kill gram-positive and/or gram-negative bacteria, fungi, mould, various viruses, protozoa, parasites, and other microbes. It is known that the potent activity of alcohol against a microorganism is due to the denaturation of proteins and enzymes and cellular dehydration. In general, the more concentrated the alcohol in the disinfectant, the stronger the antimicrobial effect is expected. However, it needs additional compounds (such as Quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolic compounds and iodophors) as increasing the alcohol concentration has the detrimental effect of increasing the level of skin irritation for disinfectant users. Studies have shown that the effectiveness of the same disinfectant applied in different amounts such as 1 ml and 2,4 ml (FDA value) is insufficient for hands, since 1 .1 ml cannot cover the entire hand surface. Suitably, the hand sanitiser of the present disclosure comprises about 20% (by weight of disinfectant) to about 95% (by weight of disinfectant) and more typically about 60% (by weight of disinfectant) to about 95% (by weight of disinfectant) alcohol. In one particular embodiment, the hand sanitiser comprises isopropyl alcohol in an amount of about 20% (by weight of disinfectant) to about 95% (by weight of disinfectant) and more typically about 50% (by weight of disinfectant) to about 91.3% (by weight of disinfectant). Suitable disinfectants include, for example, quaternium compounds, biguanidines, halogenated compounds and combinations thereof. In preferred embodiments, disinfectants are FDA-approved or approved for use in the European Union. Examples of appropriate FDA-approved disinfectants are in the Interim Final Monograph for OTC Topical Antimicrobial Products (Federal Register, Jan. 6, 1978, 43 FR 1210: 1211 -49) and in the Provisional Final Monograph for Healthcare Antiseptic Drug Products (Federal Register, 17 Jun 1994, 59 FR 31402, 31402-52). As noted above, the alcohol in hand sanitiser can cause dryness, irritation and cracking on the user's skin. To help heal and protect the user's skin, disinfectants of the present disclosure also include one or more moisturisers or another skin protectant such as an emollient and/or a silicone. To avoid the instability that occurs when a moisturiser is added to an alcohol-based disinfectant, the disinfectants of the present disclosure are advantageously formulated using a high internal phase emulsion ("HIPE") comprising a softener and/or a silicone. When a moisturiser or skin protectant (eg, emollient and/or silicone) is added to the disinfectant as part of a HIPE, the moisturiser or skin protectant is not separated from the disinfectant. As a result, the disinfectant is largely stable over long periods of time.

The HIPE preferably has an average droplet size of about 5 microns or less. It is believed that it is the droplet size of the HIPE (and thus softeners and/or silicones) that lasts long in the disinfectant without deteriorating.

Suitable esters may include, but are not limited to, cetyl palmitate, stearyl palmitate, cetyl stearate, isopropyl laurate, isopropyl myristate, isopropyl palmitate, and combinations thereof. Fatty alcohols can generally include octyldodecanol, lauryl, myristyl, cetyl, stearyl, behenyl alcohol, and combinations thereof. Ethers such as eucalyptol, ceteraryl glucoside, dimethyl isosorbic polyglyceryl-3 cetyl ether, polyglyceryl-3 decyltetradecanol, propylene glycol myristyl ether and combinations thereof can also be used as softeners.

The difference of the patent presented is as follows: In the related patent, the damage to the skin caused using chemicals has been revealed, and all the compounds considered as moisturisers are generally obtained by chemical means. Said patent will use the extracts to be obtained without the use of chemicals in the production of disinfectants, and their positive effect on both nature and human health will be determined. In order to increase the antimicrobial activity, instead of increasing the alcohol concentration and/or increasing the synthetic substance ratio, the efficiency of extracts obtained from plants will be used, and the ferulic acid obtained from wheat bran will also have an effect on skin protection.
