Abstract:

The present invention improves the compression ratio of data that contain runs of the same value. A first encoding means (1a) encodes each run portion in data to be compressed (4) in the form of a run length. A decomposition means (1b) decomposes the run length in the form of the sum of integers that belong to a predetermined integer group. A computation means (1d) computes occurrence probabilities of the respective integers that are obtained through the decomposition. A second encoding means (1e) encodes the respective integers such that higher occurrence probabilities result in shorter codes.
