Title:
PROPHYLACTIC OR THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR FTLD AND METHOD FOR SCREENING SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/066701
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), said agent comprising an inhibitor of calcium ion influx into cells. Also provided is a method for screening a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for FTLD, said method comprising: (1) a step for contacting a test substance with cells; (2) a step for measuring calcium ion influx into the cells; (3) a step for comparing the calcium ion influx level measured in (2) with a calcium ion influx level into cells not contacted with the test substance; (4) a step for adding a test substance, which lowers the calcium ion influx level, to neurons having the disease condition of FTLD and detecting or measuring the accumulation or extracellular discharge of misfolded tau proteins; and (5) a step for, when the accumulation or extracellular discharge of misfolded tau proteins is reduced, then selecting the test substance as a candidate for a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for FTLD.
