Abstract:
Aspects of the disclosure provide a method of securely transmitting information, including receiving, by a Domain Name System (DNS) asking device, a domain name query including a full domain name, and communicating, by the DNS asking device, with an authoritative DNS answering device. The communicating includes sending, by the DNS asking device, the query to the DNS answering device, generating, by the DNS answering device, an authoritative response including a binding record, digitally signing, by the DNS answering device, the authoritative response to output a unique fingerprint on the authoritative response to generate an authoritative signed response, sending, by the DNS answering device, the authoritative signed response to the DNS asking device, and publicly verifying, by the DNS asking device, the authoritative signed response using only the full domain name to deterministically derive a verification public key corresponding to a signing private key of the DNS answering device.
