Abstract:
In the rack bar (2) and steering device using the same according to the present invention, an endmost tooth bottom (225) for reducing stress exerted on a first forging die during die forging of a rack tooth molding part (22) is formed on the endmost side of a plurality of tooth bottoms. Specifically, in the present embodiment, the endmost tooth bottom (225) is formed so that the depth (D2) thereof is less than the depth (D1) of an ordinary tooth bottom (224) by a difference (Dx). The amount of flow of material during formation of the endmost tooth bottom (225) can thereby be reduced by an amount commensurate with the difference (Dx). As a result, stress exerted on the first forging die can be reduced, and the occurrence of heat checking in the first forging die can be suppressed.
