Abstract:
A railway car drive system comprising: a line breaker that cuts off DC power from an overhead line; an inverter that converts DC power to AC power for a load constituted by an electric motor driving the railway car; and a filter reactor and a filter capacitor that are interposed between the line breaker and the inverter and suppress voltage pulses produced when the inverter is operated, the system also having a semiconductor current limiter (comprising a semiconductor switch element connected in series with the line breaker and the inverter, and a resistor connected in parallel with the semiconductor switch element) and an active filter device that suppresses return noise current generated by the inverter.
