Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to form efficiently and either sufficiently or optimally on the surface of a refractory a surface compacted layer that is robust and has a high slag infiltration suppressing capability. This refractory for casting steel contains at least 1% by mass of free carbon and at least 2% by mass and at most 15% by mass of aluminum components as metal, and contains a refractory material as the main component of the remaining portion, and is characterized in having a gas permeability at least equal to 1 × 10-16m2 and at most equal to 15×10-16m2.
