Provided is a refrigerating apparatus wherein suitable oil quantity control is performed. A refrigerating apparatus (1) is provided with a cooling medium circuit (10), which performs refrigeration cycle operations using carbon dioxide as a cooling medium. The cooling medium circuit (10) has: a compressor (11), which has oil stored in a case (12), and discharges the cooling medium with the oil to a high-pressure discharge pipe (21); an oil separator (22), which is provided in the high-pressure discharge pipe (21); and an oil returning pipe (28), which returns the oil into the case (12), said oil having been separated by means of the oil separator (22). The cooling apparatus is also provided with: an oil level sensor (31), which detects an oil level in the compressor (11); and a display panel (51), which displays a state of the oil level in the compressor (11) on the basis of detection signals obtained from the oil level sensor (31).
