Abstract:
An air conditioner (100) serving as a refrigeration cycle device includes a protection device (200). If the current value of an input current of an electric motor of a compressor (103) exceeds a first prescribed value set to at least three times a maximum current value during normal operation not including startup of the compressor (103), or if the current value of the input current of the electric motor of the compressor (103) exceeds a second prescribed value set to at least twice the current value during startup of the compressor (103), or if a number of discharged electrons in a discharge space, calculated on the basis of an amount of change in the current value of the input current of the electric motor of the compressor (103) exceeds a third prescribed value set to be at least equal to 1.0 × 1019 per second, then the protection device (200) executes at least one of either stopping the power supply to the compressor (103) or reducing the rotational speed of the compressor (103).
