A retainer (10) that is affixed to the shaft part of an attachment-receiving member while an attachment member is being held in order to attach the attachment member to the attachment-receiving member. At one end (28) of an accommodating part (20) there is an insertion hole (26) for the shaft part, enabling the accommodating part to accommodate the shaft part. A pair of leg parts (22) extend outward from the one end (28) side of the accommodating part (20). The pair of leg parts (22) can be bent so as to draw close to the accommodating part (20), which is positioned between the pair of leg parts (22), and at the tip ends of the pair of leg parts there are engaging parts that engage at the perimeter of an attachment hole in the attachment member. The accommodating part (20) has pairs of latching parts that latch onto the accommodated shaft part. The attachment member is attached to the attachment-receiving member by inserting the retainer into the attachment hole of the attachment member from the one end (28) side of the accommodating part (20), so that the engaging parts engage the attachment member, and inserting the shaft part into the insertion hole (26) so that the latching parts latch onto the shaft part.
