Abstract:
A retardation film which comprises a stretched polymer film and fulfills requirements respectively represented by the following formulae (1) to (3): (1) 0.70 < Re[450]/Re[550]< 0.97; (2) 1.5×10-3 <Δn < 6×10-3; and (3) 1.13 < NZ < 1.50.
(In the formulae, Re[450] and Re[550] respectively represent in-plane phase difference values of the retardation film as measured using light having wavelengths 450 nm and 550 nm at 23°C; Δn represents an in-plane birefringence represented by the formula nx - ny wherein nx and ny respectively represent refractive indexes in the slow axis direction and the fast axis direction of the retardation film; and NZ represents the ratio of a thickness-direction birefringence represented by the formula nx - nz to an in-plane birefringence represented by the formula nx - ny wherein nz represents a refractive index in the thickness direction of the retardation film.
