Abstract:
A retardation film including a cylindrical phase-separating structure that: comprises a resin C including a copolymer P including a polymerization unit A and a polymerization unit B; and exhibits structural birefringence. The phase-separating structure: includes a phase (A) having as the main component thereof the polymerization unit A and a phase (B) having as the main component thereof the polymerization unit B; and fulfills either condition (1) or (2). Condition (1): D(A) > D(B); f (B) > 0.5; and the direction providing the greatest refractive index in the in-plane direction is parallel to the orientation direction of the cylinder in the phase-separating structure. Condition (2): D(A) > D(B); f (A) > 0.5; and the direction providing the greatest refractive index in the in-plane direction is orthogonal to the orientation direction of the cylinder in the phase-separating structure. Here, f(A), f(B), D(A), and D(B) are as defined in the Specification.
