Abstract:
The present disclosure concerns a reversible female urinary device comprising: a urine-collecting housing defining a hollow space and having at least one urine-collecting inlet opening into the hollow space and having an inlet height; and at least one sealing rim at least partially surrounding the urine-collecting inlet, wherein, considered along the inlet height, said sealing rim forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved end portions, thereby defining at least two distinct usage configurations of the urinary device. It also concerns a corresponding urinary assembly.

CLAIMS:

1 . A reversible female urinary device comprising: a urine-collecting housing defining a hollow space and having at least one urine-collecting inlet opening into the hollow space and having an inlet height; and at least one sealing rim at least partially surrounding the urine-collecting inlet, wherein, considered along the inlet height, said sealing rim forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved end portions, thereby defining at least two distinct usage configurations of the urinary device.

2. The urinary device according to claim 1 , wherein the urinary device has a longitudinal direction and wherein the urine-collecting housing comprises first and second opposed longitudinal ends, the urinecollecting inlet being formed at one of the first and second longitudinal ends.

3. The urinary device according to claim 2, wherein the sealing rim surrounds substantially an entirety of a periphery of the urine-collecting inlet.

4. The urinary device according to claim 2 or 3, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height, the first and second user-contacting curved portions have first and second radii of curvature different from each other.

The urinary device according to claim 2 or 3, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height, a curvature of the sealing rim varies along the inlet height. The urinary device according to claim 4 or 5, wherein the plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height forms a plane of symmetry of the urinary device. The urinary device according to any one of claims 2 to 6, wherein tips of the first and second user-contacting curved portions of the sealing rim are longitudinally offset with respect to each other. The urinary device according to any one of claims 2 to 7, wherein the urine-collecting housing has a bag-introducing opening formed at the other one of the first and second longitudinal ends, opening into the hollow space. The urinary device according to claim 8, wherein said other one of the first and second longitudinal ends forms a handling portion shaped and dimensioned to increase a contact of the sealing rim with the user when in use. The urinary device according to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein the sealing rim is formed integral with the urine-collecting housing. The urinary device according to claim 2, wherein said at least one urinecollecting inlet comprises first and second urine-collecting inlets having first and second inlet heights, opening into the hollow space and formed respectively at the first and second longitudinal ends, wherein said at least one sealing rim comprises first and second sealing rims at least partially surrounding respectively the first and second urine-collecting inlets, wherein, considered along the corresponding one of the first and second inlet heights, each of the first and second sealing rims forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved end portions, thereby defining at least four distinct usage configurations of the urinary device. The urinary device according to claim 11 , wherein the first and second sealing rims surround respectively substantially an entirety of a periphery of the first and second urine-collecting inlets. The urinary device according to claim 11 or 12, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights, the first and second user-contacting curved portions of each of the first and second sealing rims have first and second radii of curvature different from each other. The urinary device according to claim 11 or 12, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights, a curvature of each of the first and second sealing rims varies along the corresponding one of the first and second inlet heights. The urinary device according to claim 13 or 14, wherein the plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights forms a plane of symmetry of the urinary device. The urinary device according to any one of claims 11 to 15, wherein tips of the first and second user-contacting curved portions of each of the first and second sealing rims are longitudinally offset with respect to each other. The urinary device according to any one of claims 1 to 16, wherein the urine-collecting housing comprises first and second side walls spaced apart from each other, and first and second connecting portions extending at least partially between the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 17, wherein at least one gripping opening is formed in at least one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 18, wherein gripping openings are formed in the first and second side walls, substantially in register with each other. The urinary device according to claim 18 or 19, wherein first and second gripping openings are formed in at least one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 18, wherein a periphery of the gripping opening forms a convexity substantially following a profile of a closest edge of the corresponding one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to any one of claims 18 to 21 , wherein the first and second side walls form respectively first and second concavities facing each other and forming at least partially said hollow space. The urinary device according to any one of claims 17 to 22, wherein each of the first and second connecting portions comprises at least one gripping part. The urinary device according to claim 23, wherein at least one of the first and second connecting portions comprises first and second gripping parts spaced apart from each other and forming apexes of the corresponding one of the first and second connecting portions. The urinary device according to claim 24, wherein first and second concavities are formed in gripping edges of the first and second sidewalls, between the first and second gripping parts of the corresponding one of the first and second connecting portions. The urinary device according to any one of claims 1 to 25, wherein the urinary device is single-pieced. The urinary device according to any one of claims 1 to 26, wherein the urinary device is at least partially made of plastic. The urinary device according to claim 27, wherein the urinary device is at least partially injection-molded. A reversible female urinary device having a longitudinal direction and comprising: a body at least partially delimiting a hollow space and having first and second opposed longitudinal ends, at least one urine-collecting inlet being formed at one of the first and second longitudinal ends, the urine-collecting inlet opening into the hollow space and having an inlet height, and a sealing flange extending outward and away from the urine-collecting inlet, wherein, considered along the inlet height, said sealing flange forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions, thereby defining at least two possible usage configurations of the urinary device. The urinary device according to claim 29, wherein the sealing flange surrounds substantially an entirety of a periphery of the urine-collecting inlet. The urinary device according to claim 29 or 30, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height, the first and second user-contacting curved portions have first and second radii of curvature different from each other. The urinary device according to claim 29 or 30, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height, a curvature of the sealing flange varies along the inlet height. The urinary device according to claim 31 or 32, wherein the plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the inlet height forms a plane of symmetry of the urinary device. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 33, wherein tips of the first and second user-contacting curved portions of the sealing flange are longitudinally offset with respect to each other. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 34, wherein the body has a bag-introducing opening formed at the other one of the first and second longitudinal ends, opening into the hollow space. The urinary device according to claim 35, wherein said other one of the first and second longitudinal ends forms a handling portion shaped and dimensioned to increase a contact of the sealing flange with the user when in use. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 36, wherein the sealing flange is formed integral with the body. The urinary device according to claim 29, wherein said at least one urinecollecting inlet comprises first and second urine-collecting inlets having first and second inlet heights, opening into the hollow space and formed respectively at the first and second longitudinal ends, wherein said at least one sealing flange comprises first and second sealing flanges at least partially surrounding respectively the first and second urinecollecting inlets, wherein, considered along the corresponding one of the first and second inlet heights, each of the first and second sealing flanges forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved end portions, thereby defining at least four distinct usage configurations of the urinary device. The urinary device according to claim 38, wherein the first and second sealing flanges surround respectively substantially an entirety of a periphery of the first and second urine-collecting inlets. The urinary device according to claim 38 or 39, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights, the first and second user-contacting curved portions of each of the first and second sealing flanges have first and second radii of curvature different from each other. The urinary device according to claim 38 or 39, wherein, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights, a curvature of each of the first and second sealing flanges varies along the corresponding one of the first and second inlet heights. The urinary device according to claim 40 or 41 , wherein the plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second inlet heights forms a plane of symmetry of the urinary device. The urinary device according to any one of claims 38 to 42, wherein tips of the first and second user-contacting curved portions of each of the first and second sealing flanges are longitudinally offset with respect to each other. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 43, wherein the body comprises first and second side walls spaced apart from each other, and first and second connecting portions extending at least partially between the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 44, wherein at least one gripping opening is formed in at least one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 45, wherein gripping openings are formed in the first and second side walls, substantially in register with each other. The urinary device according to claim 45 or 46, wherein first and second gripping openings are formed in at least one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to claim 47, wherein a periphery of the gripping opening forms a convexity substantially following a profile of a closest edge of the corresponding one of the first and second side walls. The urinary device according to any one of claims 45 to 48, wherein the first and second side walls form first and second concavities facing each other and forming at least partially said hollow space. The urinary device according to any one of claims 44 to 49, wherein each of the first and second connecting portions comprises at least one gripping part. The urinary device according to claim 50, wherein at least one of the first and second connecting portions comprises first and second gripping parts spaced apart from each other and forming apexes of the corresponding one of the first and second connecting portions. The urinary device according to claim 51 , wherein first and second concavities are formed in gripping edges of the first and second sidewalls, between the first and second gripping parts of the corresponding one of the first and second connecting portions. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 52, wherein the urinary device is single-pieced. The urinary device according to any one of claims 29 to 53, wherein the urinary device is at least partially made of plastic. The urinary device according to claim 54, wherein the urinary device is at least partially injection-molded. A reversible female urinary assembly, comprising: a reversible female urinary device according to any one of claims 1 to 28; and a disposable bag fittable into the hollow space and securable to the urinecollecting housing.

Description:
REVERSIBLE FEMALE URINARY DEVICE

PRIOR APPLICATION

[0001] The present application claims priority from U.S. provisional patent application No. 63/363.882, filed on April 29, 2022, and entitled “REVERSIBLE FEMALE URINARY DEVICE”, the disclosure of which being hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] The technical field relates to a urinary device, and more particularly to a non- invasive (or external) female urinary device that is configurable into a plurality of usage configurations.

BACKGROUND

[0003] The direction of female urine flow requires females to be substantially seated during urination. The inability and/or difficulty to direct urine flow might be problematic for example when attempting to use a bed pan or similar device if bedridden, as it is often not possible to properly arrange the bed pan at the right location and/or inclination angle to catch urine stream, or to predict where the urine stream may initially be directed.

[0004] It is therefore known to provide female urination devices for enabling a female to channel, direct and collect their urine flow. However, such devices might be shaped and dimensioned for a specific morphology and can thus not be comfortable or suitable for anyone.

[0005] In view of the above, there is a need for a female urinary device which would be able to overcome or at least minimize some of the above-discussed prior art concerns.

BRIEF SUMMARY

[0006] It is therefore an aim of the present invention to at least partially address the above-mentioned issues. [0007] According to a general aspect, there is provided a reversible female urinary device comprising: a urine-collecting housing defining a hollow space and having at least one urine-collecting inlet opening into the hollow space and having an inlet height; and at least one sealing rim at least partially surrounding the urine-collecting inlet, wherein, considered along the inlet height, said sealing rim forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved end portions, thereby defining at least two distinct usage configurations of the urinary device.

[0008] According to another general aspect, there is provided a reversible female urinary device having a longitudinal direction and comprising: a body at least partially delimiting a hollow space and having first and second opposed longitudinal ends, at least one urine-collecting inlet being formed at one of the first and second longitudinal ends, the urine-collecting inlet opening into the hollow space and having an inlet height, and a sealing flange extending outward and away from the urine-collecting inlet, wherein, considered along the inlet height, said sealing flange forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions, thereby defining at least two possible usage configurations of the urinary device.

[0010] According to another general aspect, there is provided a reversible female urinary device defining a longitudinal direction and comprising: a substantially tubular wall at least partially delimiting a hollow space and having first and second opposed longitudinal ends opening into the hollow space, and first and second sealing rims at least partially surrounding respectively the first and second longitudinal ends to form opposed first and second user-contacting surfaces, thereby defining at least two possible usage configurations. [0011] According to another general aspect, there is provided a reversible female urinary assembly, comprising: a reversible female urinary device according to the present disclosure, and a disposable bag fittable into the hollow space and securable to the urine-collecting housing.

[0012] According to another general aspect, there is provided a reversible female urinary assembly, comprising: a reversible female urinary device according to the present disclosure, and a disposable bag fittable into the hollow space and securable to the body.

[0038] The reversible female urinary device 100, 1100 of the present disclosure is a non-invasive (or external) urinary device, i.e. , is configured to be worn externally by a female user, around the user's urethral orifice, to collect urine excreted through the urethral orifice. As used herein, the term “external” when used to describe the urinary device 100, 1100 refers to an assembly which is adapted to be used without inserting components inside the female's urethra. [0039] As detailed below, a preferred version of the non-invasive female urinary device 100, 1100 is constructed of plastic, typically through an injection molding process. As a result, the device is light-weight, low-cost and easily cleaned. While certain parts of the device may be referred to individually, as detailed below, it is important to note that in a possible embodiment, the entire device would be made in one piece for reasons of economy and quality. It could also be conceived a urinary device that would be made of a plurality of components - for instance at least partially made of distinct materials - that would be secured together.

[0040] Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 11 , there is shown a first embodiment of the reversible female urinary device 100 (or multiconfiguration female urinary device 100). The urinary device 100 defines a longitudinal direction L and comprises a body 200 - or substantially tubular wall 200, or urinecollecting housing 200 - at least partially delimiting a hollow space 210 (or bagreceiving cavity 210) and having at least a first longitudinal end 220 - or first longitudinal mouth 220 or urine-collecting inlet 220 - opening into the hollow space 210 and having a first height H1 or first inlet height H1 , and a first sealing rim 300 or first flange 300 at least partially surrounding the first longitudinal end 220, wherein, considered along the first height H1 , the first sealing rim 300 forms first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions 310, 320, thereby defining at least two possible usage configurations of the female urinary device 100. In other words, and as detailed below, the female urinary device 100 is reversible at least upon rotation of the device 100 about the longitudinal direction L thereof, so as to arrange either the first user-contacting curved portion 310 or the second user-contacting curved portion 320 proximate a surface supporting the urinary device 100 and bordering at least partially a lower portion of the genitals of the user. In other words, in a first usage configuration, the first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions 310, 320 form respectively posterior and anterior ends of the first sealing rim 300 according to the anatomical orientation of the urinary device 100 when worn by a user. When worn by a user, the posterior end is positioned posterior of the user's urethral orifice while the anterior end is positioned anterior of the user's urethral orifice. In a second usage configuration, the second and first opposed user-contacting curved portions 320, 310 form respectively the posterior and anterior ends of the first sealing rim 300. [0041] As detailed below, in the first embodiment of the urinary device 100, the body 200 or substantially tubular wall 200 further comprises a second longitudinal end 230 - or second longitudinal mouth 230 - opening into the hollow space 210, opposed to the first longitudinal end 220, wherein the urinary device 100 further comprises a second sealing rim 400 surrounding at least partially the second longitudinal end 230 to form a second user-contacting surface 402 longitudinally opposed to a first usercontacting surfaces 302 formed by the first sealing rim 300. In otherwords, the second sealing rim 400 defines additional possible usage configurations of the urinary device. In yet other words, the female urinary device 100 is also reversible upon rotation of the device about an axis V (Fig. 1) substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction L of the urinary device 100. As detailed below, in a similar manner to the first sealing rim 300, the second sealing rim 400 forms, considered along a second height H2 of the second sealing rim 400, first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions 410, 420, thereby defining at least two additional possible usage configurations of the female urinary device 100. It is thus understood that in a third usage configuration, the first and second opposed user-contacting curved portions 410, 420 form respectively the posterior and anterior ends of the second sealing rim 400, while in a fourth usage configuration, the second and first opposed usercontacting curved portions 420, 410 form respectively the posterior and anterior ends of the second sealing rim 400.

[0042] In other words, the reversible urinary device 100 according to the present disclosure is configurable into four different usage configurations.

[0043] As best shown in Figures 4 and 5, considered in a plane comprising the longitudinal direction and the first and second heights H1 , H2, a profile of the first and second sealing rims 300, 400 is substantially C-shaped.

Body

[0044] Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, in the embodiment shown, the body 200 is substantially tubular in shape (i.e., is at least partially formed of the substantially tubular wall delimiting at least partially the hollow space 210). In the embodiment shown, the body 200 comprises first and second side walls 240, 242 extending along the longitudinal direction L and along the axis V, substantially parallel to each other, and spaced apart from each other. Each of the first and second side walls 240, 242 extends between the first and second longitudinal ends 220, 230; inner faces of the first and second opposed side walls 240, 242 at least partially delimit the hollow space 210.

[0045] Considered along the longitudinal direction L, each of the first and second side walls 240, 242 comprises first and second opposed mouth-forming edges 241 , 243, 245, 247 (Figures 2 and 3) forming or delimiting at least partially the first and second longitudinal ends 210, 230. As represented, concavities are formed in the mouthforming edges of the first and second side walls 240, 242, for the first and second longitudinal ends to better conform to the morphology of the user.

[0046] Considered along a height H (Fig. 4) of the body 200, each of the first and second side walls 240, 242 further comprises first and second opposed gripping edges 251 , 253, 255, 257, which extend along the longitudinal direction L of the urinary device 100.
