Regarding a holding system 10 for a robot arm, a holding control method, a holding control program, and a recording medium, a robot arm 22 that performs holding operation on objects 13-21 by a holding means 12 attached to the lead end portion of an arm means 11 is provided, a control means uses information from a sensor capable of imaging the peripheral environment of the robot arm 22 and a situation A at the start of holding operation and a situation B at the end thereof to automatically generate an operation route plan for the robot arm 22 from the situation A at the start to the situation B at the end, and the control means then causes the robot arm 22 to operate in accordance with the generated operation route plan for the robot arm 22.
