Abstract:
A housing of this rotary electric machine accommodates therein a stator and a rotor, and forms a first space contiguous to a gap at a one end side of the stator and a second space contiguous to the gap at the other end side of the stator. The stator has, at an intermediate portion thereof in the axial direction, an intermediate duct which is contiguous to the gap from the outer circumference of the stator. The housing has a one-end side intake port for allowing intake of cooling air into the first space from an air blower, a one-end side exhaust port for discharging air from the first space, an other-end side intake port for allowing intake of cooling air into the second space from the air blower, an other-end side exhaust port for discharging air from the second space, and an air inlet which is contiguous to the intermediate duct and which allows intake of air from the outside of the housing. The rotary electric machine further comprises: a one-end side throttle mechanism which suppresses the flow of the cooling air flowing from the one-end side intake port to the first space as compared to the flow at the one-end side exhaust port side; and an other-end side throttle mechanism which suppresses the flow of the cooling air from the other-end side intake port to the second space as compared to the flow at the other-end side exhaust port side.
