The present invention provides a rotary electrical machine that effectively protects a coil end from dust which flows into the rotary electrical machine, thereby reducing coil damage and improving reliability and service life. To this end, provided is a rotary electrical machine comprising a rotor and a stator that is disposed opposite from the rotor with a prescribed gap therebetween, said rotary electrical machine being characterized in that: a coolant for cooling the rotor and the stator flows from one side in the axial direction of the rotary electrical machine and toward an axial direction end part; the rotor and the stator are each provided with a coil; the respective coils of the rotor and the stator are covered with an insulating material; and the thickness of the insulating material covering a part of the stator coil end that is opposite from the rotor coil and on the side of the stator coil at which the coolant flows out is greater than the thickness of the insulating material covering other parts of the stator coil.
