Title:
ROTOR AND EXCOTER RING
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2005115100
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
A rotor assembly having a rotor (42) with a cylindrical body (46) having a radial disc (44) that is perpendicularly aligned with a hub (14) of a vehicle and an exciter ring (160, 260, 360) through which a sensor (80) detects rotation of the radial disc (44). The exciter ring (160, 260, 360) is concentrically installed within the cylindrical body (46) to define a gap (175, 275, 375) between a flange (168, 268, 368) thereon and the radial disc (44). Reluctance sections on the flange (168, 268, 368) are axially aligned with the sensor (80) to generate a signal indicative of rotation. Friction members (54, 56) engage the radial disc (44) and generate thermal energy that is conducted toward a mounting flange (40). The thermal energy level may cause the rotor assembly to expand and change the alignment of the radial disc (44) from perpendicular and non-perpendicular with respect to the hub (14). The gap (175, 275, 375) allows the radial disc (44) and exciter ring (160, 260, 360) to independently move such that the reluctance sections remain axially aligned with the sensor (80) and sensed information is an accurate indication of rotation.
