Abstract:
Provided are: a rubber composition that can, in a balanced manner, improve wet grip performance and fuel economy; and a pneumatic tire that uses the rubber composition in the members (particularly the tread) of a tire. The rubber composition is characterized by containing: a rubber component containing a copolymer that is obtained via the copolymerization of 1,3-butadiene, styrene, and the compound represented by formula (I), has an amino group at one terminus, has a functional group containing at least one atom selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, or silicon at the other terminus, and has a weight average molecular weight of 1.0×105 - 2.5×106; a silica (1) having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of no greater than 100 m2/g; and a silica (2) having a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of at least 180 m2/g; the amount of the silica (1) and silica (2) contained for every 100 parts by mass of the rubber component being 30-150 parts by mass. In the formula, R1 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-10 carbon atoms.
