Description:
SAFETY DEVICE OF A LAMP INCLUDING COOLING MEANS

Technical Field

The present invention concerns a safety device of a lamp, covering a light device and electrical parts. Background

If a light device, such as a light bulb, LED-light, fluorescent lamp or the like, brakes for some reason there is a risk that pieces of the light device will be spread in an uncontrolled way. There is therefore a need for a protection hindering spreading of parts of a broken light device. This is not at least important as a child safety device.

For child safety it is also beneficial if all electrical parts are covered, hindering unwanted manipulation. It is also beneficial if the safety device hinders that someone, for instance a child, smashes the light device intentionally or unintentionally.

WO 2014/206434 shows a safety device of a lamp. Even if such a safety device functions satisfactorily, the experience is that it will become very hot sometimes.

There is therefore a need for a safety device that does not become too hot.

Summary

According to one aspect of the present invention a safety device is arranged, placed surrounding a light device and the electrical parts of the lamp. The safety device comprises an upper part and a lower part. The upper part is attached to a lamp holder and the lower part is attached to the upper part. The safety device has means to let air flow freely through it.

The means to let the air flow freely may comprise a number of first air openings arranged, in use of the safety device at a light device, at a vertical distance from a number of second air openings. Thereby cooling air can flow freely from the first air openings to the second air openings.

In one embodiment the upper part is attached to the lower part such that a distance is provided between the upper part and the lower part. Thereby air is allowed to be let in, or be let out - depending on the orientation of the safety device in use at a lamp, between the upper and lower part. According to another aspect of the invention the lower part is a globe part having a vertical ring. Said vertical ring has alternating outer ring sections and inner ring sections. The outer ring sections have threads on an outer side, for connection to the upper part. The inner ring sections have grooves, which are open upwards. The upper part is a cylindrical part having a horizontal flange at one end. Said horizontal flange has a number of ventilation openings, at even spacing.

Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be obvious to a person skilled in the art when reading the detailed description below of embodiments of the present invention.

Brief Description of the Drawings

The invention will be described further below by way of examples and with reference to the enclosed drawings. In the drawings:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a part of the safety device according to the present invention;

Fig. 2a is a perspective view of another part of the safety device according to the present invention;

Detailed Description

As used in this description the terms "lower", "upper" and similar expressions are in relation to a pendant lamp. The safety device may have other orientation for other types of lamps.

The safety device of the present invention is formed of two parts, a lower part to surround a light bulb or the like of a lamp and an upper part to be mounted to a lamp holder.

In Fig. 1 a lower part in the form of a globe part 1 is shown. The globe part 1 has an upper ring 2 in the form of a vertical wall. The ring 2 has a number of outer ring sections 3, with threads 4 on the outer side of each outer ring section 3, and a number of inner ring sections 5 having a recess 6 open upwards. In the shown embodiment the recesses 6 can be said to have a U form, but the exact form of the recesses 6 is not critical. However, it is beneficial if the recesses are relatively large. The outer ring sections 3 and the inner ring sections 5 are placed alternating at even spacing. Inside the ring 2 an opening 7 is formed, giving access to the inside of the globe part 1. As shown in Fig. 1 the inner ring sections 5 are displaced inwardly in relation to the outer ring sections 4, giving different inner diameters. Thus, the inner diameter dl of the inner ring sections 5 is smaller than the inner diameter d2 of the outer ring sections 3. Thus, the ring 2 could be said to have a wave form.

Even though the lower part is shown as a globe part 1 in Fig. 1, a person skilled in the art realises that the lower part may have other forms.

In Figs. 2a-2c an upper part in the form of a cylindrical part 8 is shown. The cylindrical part 8 has a generally cylindrical form with a flange 9 at the upper end, which flange 9 is directed inwardly. The flange 9 has a horizontal orientation. Inside the flange 9 a through opening 10 is formed. The flange 9 has a number of ventilation holes 11 placed at an even spacing. An inner ring 12 is placed at the inner circumference of the flange 9, which inner ring 12 projects vertically downwards. The ring 12 has threads 13 on the inner side. On the lower side of the flange 9 a cover 14 is placed below each of the ventilation holes 11. Each cover 14 is placed at a distance from the flange 9 in such a way that open areas are formed between the cover 14 and the flange 9. The main purpose of the covers 14 is to hinder direct access to the inside of the cylindrical part 8.

Threads 15 are placed on the inside of the lower section of the cylindrical part 8. The globe part 1 and the cylindrical part 8 are mounted to each other by means of the threads 4 of the outer ring sections 3 of the globe part 1 and the threads 15 on the inside of the lower section of the cylindrical part 8.

The globe part 1 of the safety device is to be placed around a light device in the form of a light bulb 16 or the like. In the example shown in Fig. 3 the light bulb 16 is received in a lamp holder 17. The lamp holder 17 is mounted to the cylindrical part 8 of the safety device by means of threads 18 cooperating with the threads 13 on the inside of the inner ring 12 of the flange 9. The lamp holder 17 has an upper ring 19 and is hanging in an electrical cord 20. In one embodiment the upper ring 19 is mounted to the lamp holder by means of threads, as is well known to a person skilled in the art. In another embodiment the upper ring 19 is an integrated part of the lamp holder.

As indicated in Fig. 3 a lamp shade 21 can be mounted to the lamp holder 17. The lamp shade 21 has a number of pins 22 attached to a central ring 23, which central ring 23 is held between the flange 9 of the cylindrical part 8 of the safety device and the upper ring 19 of the lamp holder 17. In other embodiments the safety device is used without any lamp shade.

As indicated by arrows in Fig. 3 air can flow between the inner ring sections 5 of the ring 2 of the globe part 1 and the lower part of the cylindrical part 8. The globe part 1 is attached to the cylindrical part 8 such that a distance A is provided between the globe part 1 and the cylindrical part 8. In one embodiment the distance A is between 1- 50 mm, preferably between 2-20 mm, and most preferably between 3-10 mm. By means of the placement of the ventilation openings between the globe part 1 and the cylindrical part 8, said ventilation openings will be more or less hidden, in that they are not immediately recognisable as ventilation openings. A person skilled in the art realises that the exact form of the recesses 6 of the inner ring sections 5 are of no importance, as long as air can flow freely through said recesses 6. Air can also flow through the ventilation holes 11 of the flange 9 of the upper part 8, whereby the air will flow between the covers 14 at the ventilation holes 11 and the flange 9. By means of the recesses of the inner ring sections 5 and the ventilation holes 11, the safety device will be ventilated by means of flowing air, assisting in keeping the temperature inside the safety device low.
