Title:
SCAFFOLD FOR TISSUE REGENERATION MADE OF BIODEGRADABLE RESIN COMPOSITE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/089828
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
It is intended to provide a scaffold for tissue regeneration in which cells, etc. can be easily sowed, which can prevent infiltration by a neighboring tissue such as granulation and has an appropriate rigidity and a sufficient strength and the biodegradation of which can be controlled from site to site. Namely, a scaffold is constructed by weaving a polylactic acid resin (PLA) fiber to give a porous woven construct and forming a composite material by using a PCL resin as a binder. Owing to the film structure of the PCL resin coating the woven fiber structure, the rigidity can be elevated by 500 times or above. This rigidity level can be varied by changing the fiber size, the weaving pitch or the film thickness, which makes it possible to broaden the application range thereof to the human body. The film thickness is increased in a part being in contact with the defect part required for the regeneration so that a porous film of 10 μm in pore size can be formed. Immediately after the surgical operation, the pore size is enlarged due to biodegradation by bodily fluids. Thus, the bodily fluids, nutrients, oxygen, etc. in the body can quickly penetrate into the scaffold, thereby providing environment suitable for the growth of osteoblasts or the like.
