The purpose of the present invention is to provide a sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element such that it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal display element which excels in visible light curability and adhesiveness to an alignment film, and which further excels in reliability. Moreover, another purpose of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display element obtained using the sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element. The present invention is a sealing agent for a liquid crystal display element, said sealing agent containing a curable resin and a photopolymerization initiator, wherein: the curable resin includes a compound which has an aromatic ring and a polymerizable functional group, and in which the content ratio of the aromatic ring is 50% or greater; the photopolymerization initiator includes a compound which has one or more photopolymerization initiating groups and three or more heterocycles in one molecule thereof; and the difference in a solubility parameter between the entirety of the curable resin, and the compound which has one or more photopolymerization initiating groups and three or more heterocycles in one molecule thereof, is 2.0 or less.
