Abstract:
A problem with secondary batteries in which lithium cobalt oxide is used as a positive electrode active material is that the battery capacity decreases due to repeated charging and discharging. Provided are positive electrode active material particles that undergo little deterioration. According to the present invention, a production method has a first step for positioning a container that accommodates a lithium oxide and a fluoride in a heating furnace, and a second step for heating the heating furnace interior in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, the heating temperature in the second step being 750-950°C (inclusive). By using this production method, positive electrode active material particle fluorine is incorporated, and the fluorine can improve the wettability of the positive electrode active material surface and homogenize and flatten said surface. A positive electrode active material obtained in this manner resists breakdown of the crystal structure in repeated high-voltage charging and discharging, and a secondary battery equipped with a positive electrode active material having such characteristics has vastly improved cycle characteristics.
