The present invention relates to a secondary battery, the secondary battery having a sealing portion in which a separator included in an electrode assembly separately seals a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and having a double sealing structure comprising a first sealing portion and a second sealing portion such that a receiving portion for receiving a fire extinguishing agent is provided at an end portion of the negative electrode, so that upon exposure to a high temperature, shrinkage of the separator can be more effectively suppressed, and when a spark occurs inside the battery, the spark can be immediately extinguished by the fire extinguishing agent, and accordingly, an internal short circuit caused by shrinkage of the separator, and explosion or ignition of the secondary battery resulting therefrom, can be prevented. In addition, the secondary battery is provided with a flame propagation prevention part on the outer surface of the electrode assembly so that a flame generated upon thermal runaway of the secondary battery is blocked at an internal stage of a cell, so that a longer flame spreading time can be induced, and accordingly, safety of the secondary battery and a secondary battery module comprising same can be further improved.
