Abstract:
A partition wall 3 that conducts ions is disposed in an electrolyte 2 that contains an electron acceptor and a hole acceptor, and a first reaction chamber 4 and a second reaction chamber 5 are formed on either side of the partition wall 3. A first and a third electrode 6, 8 are disposed in the first reaction chamber 4, and a second electrode 7 is disposed in the second reaction chamber 5. In the first electrode 6, a transparent conductive film 11 is formed on a transparent substrate 10, and a catalyst 12b is non-uniformly supported on the surface of an organic semiconductor layer 12a that is on the transparent conductive film 11. The catalyst 12b is preferably reduced and supported by means of photoreduction/precipitation. The organic semiconductor layer is a two-layer structure that preferably comprises a p-type organic semiconductor layer and an n-type organic semiconductor layer. As a result, the present invention provides a secondary photocell that can convert light energy to electrochemical energy efficiently and at low cost, that has a high energy density, and that is suitable for applications that require flexibility.
