A secondary sealing element comprises a base body (12), made from a plastic material with a base region (13) and a sealing region (14), each comprising coaxially-arranged, axially-adjacent through drillings (17, 31) for the passing of a component and an annular disc element (25), housed in the base region, made from a material different to that of the base body and with a through drilling coaxial to the through drillings in the base and sealing regions. In the non-operative state, the through drilling (30) of the annular disc element (25) has a radial dimension (d), greater than that (D₂) of the through drilling (31) in the sealing region (14) and smaller than that (D₁) of the base region (13) of the base body (12). The annular disc material is made from a carbon material. An important application for the secondary sealing element is in slip ring seals for the sealing of two components moving relative to each other.
