Abstract:
The present invention discloses a Seismobrick Unit Cell for Protection of Buildings and Equipment against Low-Frequency Seismic Surface Disturbances. The SeismoBrick (200) capable of mitigating surface vibrations comprises a layer of clamping bed (202), one or more resonators (204) clamped to the clamping bed (202) to maximize wave attenuation. The length of the one or more resonators (204) is configured based on a wavelength of propagating surface waves in the clamping bed (202) layer of one or more SeismoBricks (200). Furthermore, the SeismoBrick (200) comprises a layer of matrix (206) on top and bottom of the clamping bed (202), wherein the one or more resonators (204) are provided to induce a bandgap in a frequency range of surface waves that cause damage to civil structures, thereby effectively shielding the civil structures from surface vibrations.
