Abstract:
Provided are: a selective hydrogenation catalyst exhibiting superior reactivity and selectivity to the oxygen-containing polar functional group in a compound having a hydrogenation reaction site, such as a carbon-carbon double bond, and an oxygen-containing polar functional group, such as an epoxide bond; a production method for the selective hydrogenation catalyst; and a method of selectively hydrogenating the compound using the selective hydrogenation catalyst. Specifically provided is a method of hydrogenating a compound having a hydrogenation reaction site and an oxygen-containing polar functional group, said method being characterized in that the oxygen atom in the oxygen-containing polar functional group is selectively hydrogenated by a liquid-phase process in which a silver-based constituent/cerium oxide complex that comprises particles of a silver-based constituent and cerium oxide supported on the surface of the particles is brought into contact with the compound and hydrogen gas in the presence of a selective hydrogenation catalyst supported on a metal oxide matrix.
