Abstract:
The self adhesive tape with length scale is an invention that has a wide application possibility, and that could be easily realised with the existing technologies, if one or more length scales were printed along the tapes, during tape production. With such tapes, which could be very cheap and available everywhere if the mass production of the tapes is organised, it would be possible to improvise various metering devices, according to any special request. The tapes with length scales could also remain on various objects, such as ventilation ducts or the doors, as a permanent information about their dimensions. Measuring distances on the curved surfaces, especially concave surfaces, could be very simple, and similar is valid for measuring perimeters of the bodies with nonrounded surfaces. The self adhesive tapes with length scales could be useful at home, in schools, kindergarten, manufacture, offices, post services, laboratories, industry, the military, stocks, transport, etc. In some countries the self adhesive tapes with two parallel lengths scales would be especially interesting, for example the tapes with one scale with millimetres, and the other scale with inches.

CLAIMS
1. The self adhesive tape being characterised by one or more length scales, printed along the tape dunng tape production, using various materials of the tape, vaπous lengths, thickness and widths of the tape, transparent or opaque, with vaπous combinations of colours, rolled on the supporting cylinders, or in the form of flexible or stiff self adhesive tapes on an auxiliary tape that can be thrown away when the self adhesive tape is applied .
2. The self adhesive tape as claimed in claim 1 characterised by the fact that two different length scales are printed along the tape during tape production, e g one scale with printed millimetres and the other scale with pπnted inches.

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

This invention relates to the equipment for measuring of lengths and/or packing equipment and/or self-adhesive paper, plastic and the other similar products

Description of the problem:

The necessity for a quickly available information about the dimensions of bodies appears everywhere In spite of the fantastic development of the measuring technique, people are daily facing the problem when they suddenly have to measure the dimensions of bodies Very often the meter is not available in that moment, or the object that has to be measured cannot be reached. Sometimes the access to the object is not allowed because of radiation, toxic gases, high or low temperature, etc

There are many professions that include the problems of measuring distances on curved surfaces On the convex surfaces this is done easier, for instance with the belt meter A typical example is measuring of the outer perimeter of the pipes On the contrary, on the concave surfaces it is difficult to keep contact between the meter and the surface along the whole measured length. For this reason the result of measuring is not reliable

Very often there is a need to classify bodies with respect to their size It is quite uncomfortable to do this holding a meter with hands

State of art:

There are many different forms of length meters Most of them have wide applications, but some are made for very special purposes Demands on the precision and price can be very different. For example, the distances on the curved surfaces can be measured with a special device with a wheel, which turns the gears of the scale while rolling over the measured surface. This way of measuring is not piactical, the results are not reliable, and the special device is often not available

Generally speaking, the problem which occurs with length measuring is very often not the lack of the measuring equipment, but it's availability and the use that is not practical

The characteristics of this invention:

The main aim of this invention is to make an inexpensive, practical, always and everywhere available multi-purpose means for approximate measuring of lengths. This can be realised by printing the measuring scales on the surfaces of the self adhesive tapes, which already are in mass production without scales.

The used self adhesive tape can be removed from the measured surfaces after use. Sometimes they could also remain on the surfaces, as a permanent information about dimensions of the objects, such as ventilation ducts, doors, packets, machines, apparatus and other technical equipment. Information about the dimensions of the objects that is immediately available could be especially useful if the access to the objects is not easy. They may be too high above the ground, or in the field of radiation, toxic gases, high or low temperature, etc.

When many objects have to be measured and/or classified, one or more self adhesive tapes with length scales could be quickly distributed on the table in different directions, improvising a measuring working area. The measuring might be performed very easy. The worker does not have to hold the meter with hands, and only the measured objects should be removed on the measuring working area.

Various devices for length metering could be quickly improvised if the self adhesive tapes with length scales were applied on thick parts of paper, wooden, plastic or metallic rods. Many of the tapes would probably remain on the edges of tables, wardrobes, packets, or books. The children could enjoy to measure themselves as they grow up if the self adhesive tape with a length scale remains at the door. It could be easy to make a TV spot for this product.

Inexpensive and easy available self adhesive tapes with length scales could also have a positive influence on children in the kindergarten and schools, promoting their interest to the measuring. They could also help to the adults to get familiar with different length scales, for instance if the two scales were printed on the tape side by side: one with millimetres and the other with inches.

The self adhesive tapes with length scales could be very useful with measuring lengths on curved, especially concave surfaces and for measuring perimeters of nonrounded bodies.

For the people who move furniture self adhesive tapes with length scales could help showing dimensions of the objects.

It is not possible to predict all the applications of the self adhesive tapes with length scales that could arise at domestic use, in schools, kindergarten, manufacture, offices, post services, laboratories, industry, the military, stocks, transport, etc.

Figure 1 shows an example of the application of the self adhesive tape with length scale for measuring distances on a concave surface.

Realisation of the invention

One or more length scales may be printed on the self adhesive tape The signs on the scales can be for millimetres, centimetres, decimetres and meters, e g , with or without number signs The tapes can have various lengths and widths, they can be opaque or transparent, with various colours and can be made from various qualities of material If the requirements on the precision are high, stronger tapes are necessary. Wide tapes allow different scales to be printed side by side - one edge can show millimetres and the other edge can show inches. Except the normal self adhesive tapes, rolled on a supporting cylinder, the tapes with different strengths and thickness could be also produced with supports consisting of the auxiliary tape that can be thrown away after the self adhesive tape is removed from it. The production lines for the self adhesive tapes with length scales must be organised primarily for mass production, like most of the self adhesive tapes without length scales. Thus they could be cheap enough, and available to most of the people. For special purposes the tapes could be made, e g , from heat or water resistant materials.
