When a range in a detection direction of a level of liquid is referred to as an area, and a range obtained by dividing the area is referred to as a division area, the electrode pairs 31 are positioned on the interface between the area and the division area. The first column sensors include a1 division areas when the area is a measurement range of a liquid level gauge. The second column has a1 areas corresponding to the first division areas and each of the areas has a2 division areas. The n-th column includes the areas of which the number is a multiple from a1 to an-1 corresponding to the (n-1)-th division areas and each of the areas has an division areas. Each of the first column electrode pairs 31 is connected to a discrimination means 90. Among the second and subsequent electrode pairs 31, the pairs positioned on the interface of the areas are connected with each other and the pairs positioned on the same interface of the division areas of each of the areas are connected with each other and are then connected to the discrimination means 90. The discrimination means 90 discriminates, for each of the sensors, the magnitude of a detection value of each of the sensors and determines the liquid level on the basis of the discrimination.
