Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a technology useful in producing a CF-SMC that exhibits improved uniformity in terms of the fiber weight per unit area. An SMC production method according to the present invention comprises: (i) drawing out a carrier film from a roll and causing said film to run such that the width direction thereof is kept horizontal; (ii) parallelly arranging a plurality of continuous carbon fiber bundles, feeding the same to a chopper equipped with a cutter roll having a rotary shaft parallel to a T-direction, and causing the chopper to chop the respective carbon fiber bundles into a prescribed length that falls within a range of 5-60 mm; (iii) subjecting the chopped carbon fiber bundles resulting from the chopping operation to a fragmentation process by means of a fragmentation processing apparatus disposed below the chopper, and dropping the fragmented carbon fiber bundles on the carrier film so as to cause a carbon fiber mat to be deposited thereon; (iv) impregnating the carbon fiber mat with a thermosetting resin composition; and (v) placing a lower partition oriented perpendicular to the T-direction so as to be disposed below the fragmentation processing device.
