Disclosed are a shelf assembly for a refrigerator, and a refrigerator. The shelf assembly comprises an object placing device, with the object placing device being used for placing objects; and a sliding rail, which forms a sliding channel in the vertical direction and is provided with at least two positioning portions in the vertical direction. The shelf assembly further comprises a moving device for supporting the object placing device. The height of the object placing device in the vertical direction can be adjusted in an operable manner. A rack extending in the vertical direction is arranged on the sliding rail. The moving device comprises a gear connected to the rack in a matching manner and a damper for damping the rotation of the gear in one direction. When the moving device moves downwards, the damper intervenes with the damping to cause the moving device to descend slowly, and when the moving device moves upwards, the damper does not intervene with damping. According to the present invention, the object placing device is caused to slowly move downwards, and therefore, the safety is further ensured, and the user experience effect is also relatively good.
