Description:
DE SC RIPTION A SH OPPING SY ST E M A ND M E T H OD

BAC K G ROU ND O F T H E INV E NT ION

S hoppi ng trol I eys and shoppi ng baskets are used as carryi ng devi ce duri ng shoppi ng and materials such as shopping bags, sacks, nets are used in order to carry these products after the shoppi ng. Shoppi ng baskets used duri ng shoppi ng do not provide an ergonomic structure for the user because of their fixed forms. Also, due to the fact that they have a self-weight they i mpose an extra burden apart from the product put into the basket by the user to purchase. In addition to these, the fact that the baskets cannot be cleaned during their utilization by different users causes them to be unhygienic in case of pouring of fluid products. Another disadvantage of the embodiments in the state of the art is that they cannot enable to categorize the purchased products duri ng shoppi ng.

Shopping carriage devices do not have fixed forms and an undefined area, which is narrow and wherein it is difficult to place the product, occurs when their mouth parts are opened. T he fact that one hand of the user is f ul I with the product that s/has taken from the section and the other one is full with the current carriage device makes it quite difficult to scan the product to the carriage device and place it. In this case, the carriage device is put down and its mouth is opened on the ground. When the product is placed, the carriage device is picked up again and the shopping continues. This process goes on for every product purchase and it becomes more difficult as the bag weight increases. Although the time lost at every product purchase seems short, it becomes evident that the loss of time is unacceptably long when a calculation is made by considering the number of products per person. On the other hand, the process is quite difficult and non-ergonomic for the user.

In known shopping systems, products are usually scanned by means of a barcode or R FID scanner which is fixed or connected to a shoppi ng basket. In these systems, total price of scanned products in the basket are calculated and the required fee is paid by the user by using different payment methods. After the payment, the products are removed from the basket and loaded into the carriage device again. Another known disadvantage of the said systems is that they can only scan the products comprising e- barcode or similar special marking and they do not provide any solution for identifying or weighing products such as vegetable and fruit.

The product information consists of the product brand, the price, the weight, the product location inside the market, the stock number and its similar information. The price information provided by the server (300) is recorded on a memory modul e ( 103) .

T he noti ce modul e ( 104) essenti al ly enabl es to notify the product i nf ormati on to the user and/or enter various simple commands. The notice module (104) can be a display on the interface (1) and also a mobile device (200) wherein a mobile application integrated with the shopping system is installed. The user can easily f ol I ow-up the weight pri ce and brand i nf ormati on and the defi niti on of the products added to the i nterface ( 1 ) to purchase from the sai d noti ce modul e ( 104) . When the shopping is finished, the user pays the total amount by means of a payment module (105). The payment module (105) can be a POS device on the interface (1). The user can pay the amount transferred from the memory module (103) to the POS device by credit card. Similarly, the payment module (105) can be a NFC payment device as well. In an alternative embodiment, payment can also be provided by means of a mobile device (200) comprising a mobile application which is integrated with the shopping system as it has been mentioned before. An alternative solution is to reflect the price information on the cashier screen at counters and to provi de the payment to the cashi er preferably i n cash or other known payment methods.

A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a weighing module (106). The weighing module (106) enables to weigh the products added to the carrying device and also control the product read by the scanning module (101). The product information returned from the server (300) also comprises the product weight. If the value measured by the weighing module (106) does not match with the incoming price information, the system makes a warning notice. Similarly, control of the products read by the scanni ng modul e ( 101 ) can be made by a camera.

A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a user identification module (107). The user identification module (107) essentially enables the user to be identified by the system. The user identification module (107) can be a voice recognition system and also a fingerprint reading system, camera (300), mobile matching systems (NFC, QR code reading). Controlling whether the user provides the necessary conditions for purchasing the products that can be sold to certain age groups as a result of comparing the data retrieved from the user identification module (107) with the data comprised by the server (300), which enable the related modul es ( 100, 101 , 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 108, 109, 110) to f ulf i I thei r f uncti ons, enables to make identification control for verifying the payment and providing the pre-defi ned shoppi ng I ist to the system. Another alternative embodiment of the invention comprises a warning module (108). The warning module (108) warns the user when the transaction carried out by the payment module (105) or the scanning module (101) fails. This alternative embodiment preferably comprises an audio warning module for making an audio notice. The audio warning module also makes shopping easier for visually- impaired users by giving information through the product defined by the scanning module ( 101 ), i n additi on to bei ng abl e to notify the scanni ng modul e ( 101 ) errors.

Another alternative embodiment of the invention comprises a location determination module (109), preferably a GPS module, in order to transmit the I ocati on data of the i nterf ace ( 1 ) . Another alternative embodiment of the invention comprises an advertising module (110) on the interface (1). The advertising module (110) preferably enables to display the advertisements, which are selected within the user information, to the user. A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a handle (30). The handle (30) is connected onto the body (10).

The said interface (1 ) can be one-piece and it can preferably be composed by connecting the body (10), the hanger unit (20) and the handle (30) " which are formed separately " with each other. A similar embodiment is shown in the Figures 3 and 4. The interface (1 ), the body (10), the hanger unit (20) and the handle (30) are composed in one-piece and the hanger unit (20) is positioned on the handle (30). The hanger unit (20) can alternatively be positioned on the body (10). In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the said body (10) consists of plates (12) which are connected to each other only by means of the handle (30) and each plate (12) comprises at least one of the said hanger units (20). The plates (12) similarly enable to open the mouth part of the carrying device hanged to the interface (1) by means of the hanger unit (20). The plates (12) act as an opening

(11) here. This embodiment can be seen in the Figure 5. The said plates (12) provi des the same techni cal benefit with a I ighter structure here as an alternative of the body ( 10) . A 11 embodi ments desc ri bed for the body ( 10) can al so be appl i ed for the plates (12).

In another preferred embodi ment of the i nventi on, the sai d body ( 10) has an i ncl i ned form. T he i ncl i nati on at a certai n radi us created here prevents tears by reduci ng the pressure that the carrying device " the mouth part of which is opened by the said pi ates ( 12) or the body ( 10) " wi 11 undergo at the parts on the edges of the body ( 10) and the pi ate (12). In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the end parts of the said plates

(12) are rounded. This prevents tears by reducing the pressure that the carrying device " the mouth part of which is opened by the said plates (12) " will undergo at the parts on the edges of the plate (12). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the hanger unit (20) is a moving structure and comprises a spring (21) mechanism which enables the said hanger unit (20) to show a closing tendency. The said closing tendency enables the hanger unit (20) to switch to a closed position and compress the carrying device. No tension occurs on the spring (21) while the hanger unit (20) is in a closed position, however, the force appl i ed to the hanger unit (20) for switchi ng to an open positi on creates a tension on the spring (21). The said tension causes the hanger unit (20) to show tendency for switching to a closed position again. The said structure can be seen in the F igure 6. T he spri ng (21 ) preferably has torsi on type. One I eg of the spri ng (21 ) is fixed on the interface (1) and the other end thereof is placed to a slot created inside the hanger unit (20) such that it will be connected with the hanger unit (20). T he hanger uni t ( 20) i s c I osed i n the sai d f i rst spri ng ( 21 ) posi ti on. W hen the hanger unit (20) is moved towards the open position, the end of the spring (21) connected to the hanger unit (20) moves together with the hanger unit (20) and the motion creates a torsion force on the spring (21). The torsion force closes the hanger unit (20) by pulling the spring (21) towards the first position when the hanger unit (20) is released.

A preferred embodi ment of the i nventi on compri ses at I east one carryi ng uni t whi ch enables to integrate the full carrying devices to the interface (1). Thereby, the user can hang a second carrying device to the hanger units (20) by hanging the full carrying device to the hanger unit (20).

The body (10) can comprise at least one mounting member for enabling to place the interface (1) to another means. The said means can be any of drivable means such as a shopping trolley. The said integration member can preferably be a hook and can also be selected among structures having clip, lock or screw alternatively. In an alternative embodiment, the invention can be contained so as to be easily received from inside a dispenser in order to provide the carrying device.

The flow chart of the inventive method is shown in the Figure 8. The invention is a shoppi ng method; it disti nctively comprises steps of:

placing a carrying device, which is integrated form the said hanger units (20), to an interface (1) including a body (10) which is provided with an opening (11 ) and can keep the mouth of the carrying device open in a fixed form and at least two hanger units (20) which have a form whereby the carryi ng devi ce can be i ntegrated ( 1100);

i dentifyi ng the product by means of a scanni ng modul e ( 101 ) whi ch is connected with the interface (1) (1200);

retri evi ng the product i nf ormati on ( 1400); and

maki ng the payment ( 1900) .

The said body (10) consists of an opening (11) which enables the product pass and a surface which frames this opening (11). The opening (11) is any aperture which is shaped in a size wherefrom at least the products to be placed to the carrying devi ce can pass. T he mai n objective of the body ( 10) is to keep the mouth part open when the said carrying device is hanged to the hanger unit (20). The hanger unit (20) may be any structure wherei n the sai d carryi ng devi ce can be hanged and whi ch will prevent the carrying device from sliding over the interface (1) during the carriage. The said interface (1) enables to keep the mouth of the carrying device, which is integrated to itself, open and the said carrying device is disconnected from the interface (1) when the shopping is finished. Thereby, the purchased products can be taken out of the market di rectly i nsi de the carryi ng devi ce at the end of the shopping.

A preferred embodiment of the invention comprises the step of identifying the user ( 1000) before pi aci ng the product to the i nterf ace (1 ). T he said identifi cati on can be provided by a plurality of ways. One of these ways is to match the mobile device (200) and the interface (1). Since the mobile device (200) is registered in the name of the user, the said matching ensures that the user is identified by the system as well. The matching can be realized by methods in the state of the art such as establishing connection with the server (300) as Bluetooth, NFC or as online. Another matching method is such that the user scans a code (QR, barcode, etc.) created on the noti ce modul e ( 104) by means of the camera of hi s/her mobi I e devi ce (200). Another known method is such that the user is enabled to enter a password and a user name, which are provided to him/her previously, to a suitable interface. When the matching is provided, the user information become accessible over the interface (1) and a server (300) communicating with the interface (1). Another method is such that the user scans a customer-specific card to the interface (1) or a card reader on the i nterf ace ( 1 ) . T he user i nf ormati on can al so comprise the personal information, the previous shopping and the shopping lists of the user. When the interface (1) matches with the mobile device (200), all types of notices (product information, error warnings) and login (product type, purchase approval) can be made over the mobile device (200). Preferably, the mobile device (200) carries out all transactions over an application. Apart from the usage of the mobile device (200), the user can identify himself/herself to the system by entering the user name and the password over the notice module (104). Alternatively, the user can identify himself/herself to the system by means of the user identification module (107) comprised by the interface (1) as well. The said user identification module (107) can also be a voice recognition unit, a fingerprint unit, a face recognition unit. The user identifies his/her voice, fingerprint, face to the said components, respectively.

After the product is placed to the carrying device, the product is identified by means of a scanning module (101) which is connected with the interface (1). The said scanning module (101) can be a code scanner and also a R FID scanner or a camera. T he code scanner i dentif ies the product by showi ng the codes on the products to the scanner directly whereas there should be a microchip comprising an antenna on the product in order that the R FID scanner can detect the product. The R FID scanners are activated upon the product gets withi n a pre-determi ned range. T he camera takes a photo of the product and detects the product type by running various image processing and pattern recognition algorithms on this photo. The said transactions can be carried out on the processing module (100) and the transactions can also be carried out here upon the photo taken is transmitted to the server (300).

After the product identification, the product information is retrieved. The product information is retrieved over a server (300) so as to be notified to the user. All the sai d data detected by these scanni ng modul e ( 101 ) over the product have a response on the server (300) as product information. The retrieved data are sent to the server (300) and the server (300) sends back the product i nf ormati on i n return for the sai d data to the said interface (1). The interface (1 ) notifies the retrieved product information to the user over a notice module (104). If the user has identified hi mself /herself to the i nterface ( 1 ) by means of a mobi le devi ce (200) before starti ng the shopping, the said notices can also be made over the mobile device (200). After the said notice is made, the user gives the purchase command (1900). The said command can be given by the mobile device (200), the notice module (104) or vocally. Following the purchase command, the product price and type are added into the main account kept in the memory module (103) or the server (300) on the interface (1). Preferably, the purchased product is removed from an inventory list located on the server (300) and thus product monitoring is made easier for market employees.

W hen the user f i ni shes shoppi ng, s/he makes the payment ( 1900) . T he payment can be real i zed from a payment module (105) on the i nterface ( 1 ) di recti y. T he payment module (105) can be a POS device on the interface (1). The user can pay the main account amount, whi ch i s transferred from the memory modul e ( 103) or the server (300) to the POS device, by credit card. Similarly, the payment module (105) can be a NFC payment device as well. In an alternative embodiment, as it has been mentioned before, payment can also be made by a mobile device (200) matched with the interface (1). In another embodiment, the said main account can be transferred to a counter and the payment can also be made to a cashier.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, after the product is identified (1200) by means of a scanni ng modul e ( 101 ), the i dentif i ed product is verif i ed ( 1400) . T he flow chart of the said transactions step is shown in the Figure 9. After retrieving the result of the first scanning, the product is subjected to a second scanning. The two results obtained are compared by the processing module (100) or the server (300) and in the event that the results are equal, the product is accepted as being verified. In the event that the results obtained do not match, a warning is given. The said warning can be given from the notice module (104), the mobile device (200) and the warning module (108). In one embodiment, the second scanning is realized by a camera. After the product is detected by the scanning module (101), the product information are retrieved from the server (300). The camera takes a photo of the products in the carrying device and detects the product type by running various image processing and pattern recognition algorithms on this photo and the product information are retrieved from the server (300). If the product information obtained as a result of the two scanning, a product notice is made to the user (1500). In another embodiment, the second scanning is realized by a weighing module (106). The first weight of the carrying device is weighed by the weighing module (106). T he product placed to the carrying device is detected by the scanning module (101 ) and the product information are retrieved from the server (300). The product information also comprise the product weight. The weighing module (106) makes a second weighi ng. D ifference between the f i rst weighi ng and the second weighi ng is calculated in the processing module (100) and compared with the product weight retrieved from the product information. If the product information obtained as a result of the second scanning, a product notice is made to the user (1500). The flow chart of the said transactions is given in the Figure 9.

T he f I ow chart of an alternative embodi ment of the i nventi on is shown i n the F igure 10. In the sai d embodi ment, the product type is sel ected before the product i s pi aced to the interface (1) (2100). The product type is divided into at least two such as packaged product and unpacked product. The expression of packaged product is used as any market product which comprises code, RFID tag or similar defining signs that can be detected by a scanning module (101) on thereof. Whereas the expression of unpackaged product is used as a product whereon no defining sign can be positioned.

In the said embodiment, the user identification (2000) can be made by using all above-mentioned user recognition methods.

For selection of the product type, the transaction steps described in the flow chart shown in the Figure 8 are used one by one when a packaged product is selected (2100). The said steps are: selecting the packaged product (2200), placing the product to the carryi ng devi ce i ntegrated to the i nterface ( 1 ) (2300), i dentifyi ng the product by a scanning module (101) (2400), retrieving the product price information (2500), the user gives a purchase command (3300), adding the product price to the main account, querying new product entry (3400) and making the payment (3500). For selection of the product type, when an unpackaged product is selected (2700), the user is asked to enter the product code (2800). The product code are the codes whi ch wi 11 be the equi val ent of the product i nf ormati on determi ned previ ously for the said unpackaged products. Code entry can be realized from the notice module (104) or over a mobile device (200) matched with the interface (1). After the entry of product code is provided (2800), the product information is retrieved (2900) and the product is placed to the carrying device that is integrated to the interface (1) (3000). The interface (1) weighs the product by means of the weighing module (106). The product price is obtained by multiplying the product purchased by the product code wi th the uni t pri ce and the wei ghi ng resul t. T he product pri ce i s shown to the user over the notice module (104). If the user has identified himself /herself to the i nterface ( 1 ) by means of a mobi I e devi ce (200) before starti ng shoppi ng, the said notices can also be made over the mobile device (200) as well. After making the said notice, the user gives a command for the product purchase. The said command can be given by the mobile device (200), the notice module (104) or vocally. Upon the purchase instruction is given, the product price and type are added into the main account kept in the memory module (103) or the server (300) on the i nterface ( 1 ) . Preferably, the purchased product i s removed from an i nventory list located on the server (300) and thus the inventory list can be kept up-to-date continuously.

The user makes the payment when s/he finishes the shopping (3500).

In the said embodiment, the said interface (1) can be provided with an area in order that the mobile devices can be carried and this enables these devices to be charged.

T he sai d embodi ment enabl es to give feedback to the user over the i nterface ( 1 ) .

The said embodiment enables the carrying equipment which is developed in order to ensure that the i nterface ( 1 ) enabl i ng to hang and carry at I east one movi ng devi ce during shopping is integrated and drivable, to calculate the total balances of each i nterf ace ( 1 ) and transmit the total bal ance to the mobi I e appl i cati on.

A flow chart of an alternative shopping method is given in the Figure 11. The user matches his/her mobile device (200) with a server (300) which comprises the product i nf ormati on or a mobi I e devi ce ( 1 ) whi ch can communi cate with the server (300) and prepares a shoppi ng I ist over the mobi I e devi ce (200) and starts shoppi ng. Each product purchased is removed from the said shopping list. Thereby, the user can follow-up the products that s/he wants to purchase easily.
