Abstract:
The present invention provides a crystalline silicon nitride powder which is easily sinterable and enables the achievement of a silicon nitride sintered body that has excellent sintered body characteristics such as high-temperature strength. The present invention also provides a crystalline silicon nitride powder which enables the production of a silicon nitride sintered body that has excellent thermal conductivity, while having sufficient mechanical strength. The present invention also provides a method for producing a silicon nitride sintered body which has both high bending strength and excellent thermal conductivity at the same time. This crystalline silicon nitride powder is characterized in that: the specific surface area (SA) as determined by a BET method is 3 m2/g to 16 m2/g; the surface oxygen amount (FSO) as determined by temperature-programmed morphology analysis is 0.2% by mass to 0.6% by mass; the internal oxygen amount (FIO) as determined by temperature-programmed morphology analysis is 0.4% by mass to 1.3% by mass; the ratio (FSO/SA) of the surface oxygen amount to the BET specific surface area is not less than 0.25 mg/m2 but less than 0.50 mg/m2; and the median diameter D50 in the volume-based cumulative particle size distribution as determined by a laser diffraction/scattering method is 0.5 µm to 1.0 µm.
