Description:
'A single action tower boltllatch mechanism for doorhvindow' Field of the Invention This invention relates to a single action tower bolt/latch mechanism for door/window.

Background of the Invention The conventional tower bolts are actuated by sliding the slider bar outward and then turning towards right or left at 90° to fix in the holding groove. The conventional tower bolt is shown in Figs. la, lb, lc, of the accompanying drawings. It consists of a slider housing (SH) in which a slider bar (SB) is inserted. The slider bar (SB) is bent around for approximately 90° to be connected to a knob (K) for actuating it. The slider housing (SH) is mounted on the door or window in which the slider bar (SB) slides to bolt or unbolt the door/window.

The basic drawback of the conventional tower bolt is that it cannot be locked without turning left or right at 90°.

The object and summary of the invention The object of this invention is to obviate the aforesaid drawback by providing a tower bolt with single action locking means to bolt the door/window.

To achieve the said objective this invention provides a single action tower bolt/latch mechanism for door/window comprising: a slider housing, a slider bar, which slides inside said housing, an actuating knob fitted on said sliding bar, characterized in that said actuating knob is provided with a cam to operate the spring loaded follower on rotation,

said slider housing is provided with at least two holes/ slots, one at inward and the other at outward position to lock said follower due to spring pressure on moving slider bar inward and outward.

The single action tower bolt/latch can be of any desired shape and size.

A spring is provided with follower to actuate the tower bolt.

The knob is rotatable at locked position to unlock the follower.

The single action tower bolt/latch can be fitted with small lock to prevent its rotation and to have double locking for extra safety as illustrated in the drawing.

Brief Description of the Accompanying Drawings The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Figs. la, lb, lc illustrate the conventional tower bolt mechanism to bolt the door/window.

Figs. 2a, 2b, 2c illustrate the single action tower bolt/latch mechanism to bolt the door/window, according to this invention.

Figs. 3a, 3b, 3c illustrate the single action tower bolt/latch mechanism with a lock incorporated in the knob.

Detailed Description The conventional tower bolt mechanism for door/window has been described under the heading background.

Figs. 2a, 2b, 2c describe single action tower bolt. latch actuating mechanism, according to this invention. In said figures, the knob (K) is fitted on a slider bar (SB) and is provided for rotational action. A cam

(C) is fixed on knob (K) under the slider bar (SB). On pushing the knob (K) outward slider bar (SB) moves and spring loaded follower (F) retracts from hole (H1) and protracts into the hole (H2) due to the spring pressure thereby locking the slider bar (SB) at its position. To unlock the door/window, knob (K) has to be rotated to provide motion to the cam (C), which retracts the spring-loaded follower (F) from hole (H2) and simultaneously pulling said knob (K) inwardly leading to inward movement of slider bar (SB) facilitating the protraction of spring loaded follower (F) into hole (H1).

Figs. 3a, 3b & 3c describes single action tower bolt/latch can be fitted with small lock (L) to prevent its rotation and to have double locking for extra safety as illustrated in the drawing.

Knob (K) can be of different desired designs to suit the need of the customers.

The mechanism has application for house, hotel, office building and the like and provides a better safety along with convenience in operation.
