Abstract:
Provided is a capacitor-start single-phase induction motor with which a large startup torque can be obtained. This single-phase induction motor is equipped with: a main coil; an auxiliary coil connected in parallel to the main coil; a capacitor connected in series to the auxiliary coil; and a governor circuit that controls the current supplied from the capacitor to the auxiliary coil. The governor circuit performs a startup control wherein an operation in which the auxiliary coil is made to transition from a non-conducting state to a conducting state and then is made to transition again to the non-conducting state is performed once during less than a half-cycle of the voltage of an input power supply of the single-phase induction motor. When the auxiliary coil is in the conductive state current flows from the capacitor to the auxiliary coil, enabling startup torque to be obtained.
