Abstract:
Provided is a sintered body which contains an alumina phase as a main phase, and further contains a cordierite phase and an amorphous phase containing Si and Mn. The porosity of the sintered body is 1.1-5.0%. Preferably, I1/(I1+I2) is 0.20-0.45, where I1 is the intensity of the main peak of cordierite and I2 is the intensity of the main peak of alumina as obtained by an XRD diffraction method. In the manufacture of the sintered body, a powder containing 70-85 mass% of alumina, 3-7 mass% of Si component in terms of SiO2, 3-6.5 mass% of Mn component in terms of MnO, and 8-15 mass% of cordierite is prepared, the sum of these four components being 85 mass% or more. A compact is obtained from the powder, and the compact is fired to obtain a sintered body.
