Abstract:
Provided is a sintered boron nitride object which has a porosity of 36 vol% or higher, a bending strength of 5 MPa or higher, and a median pore diameter determined from a pore diameter distribution of 0.5 μm or larger. Also provided is a method for producing the sintered boron nitride object having a bending strength of 5 MPa or higher, the method including a step in which a raw-material mixture comprising a powder of hexagonal boron nitride and a powder of amorphous boron nitride is molded and burned, the content of the powder of amorphous boron nitride in the raw-material mixture being higher than the content of the powder of hexagonal boron nitride and a maximum pressure in the molding being less than 50 MPa.
