Abstract:
Slaked lime particles which show, in the percentage volume particle size distribution, a cumulative volume of particles of 1.0 μm or less in particle size of 20% or lower and a cumulative volume of particles of 100 μm or less in particle size of 95% or higher. In a process for obtaining said slaked lime particles, it is preferred that slaking water is added to quick lime and mixed therewith at a molar ratio (slaking water/quick lime) of 2.5 or lower. These slaked lime particles are slurried. Then, the resultant slaked lime slurry at 20-70°C is carbonated by blowing a carbon dioxide-containing gas thereinto to give light calcium carbonate. The light calcium carbonate thus obtained can be used as a filler for papers or a pigment for coated papers.
