Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a sliding member, such as a piston ring for an internal combustion engine, which exhibits low friction and excellent toughness. [Solution] This problem can be solved by a sliding member 10, such as a piston ring, in which a sliding surface 11 is coated with a Cr-B-Ti-V-(Mn, Mo)-N-based alloy coating film 2, which contains Mn and/or Mo, and in which the total content of Mn and Mo is 2 mass% or less. It is preferable for the content of B to be 0.1-1.5 mass%, for the content of V to be 0.05-1 mass%, and for the content of Ti to be 0.05-1.5 mass%.
