Provided is a smoking system comprising: a consumable article having a smokable material; and a device for heating and atomizing the smokable material. This device comprises: a chamber for receiving the consumable article; and a heating unit for heating the consumable article received by the chamber. The chamber comprises: an opening through which the consumable article is inserted; and a holding unit for holding the consumable article. The holding unit comprises: a pressing part for pressing a part of the consumable article; and a non-pressing part. Each of the pressing part and the non-pressing part has an inner surface and an outer surface. The consumable article has a first portion having first hardness and a second portion having second hardness. The second portion is located at a different position from the first portion in the direction of insertion of the consumable article. When the consumable article is positioned at a desired position in the chamber, the consumable article is positioned so that at least a part of the first portion is pressed by the inner surface of the pressing part and at least a part of the second portion is pressed by the inner surface of the pressing part.
