Abstract:
In the present invention, the performance of a solid-state imaging element that detects the presence of photons is improved. The solid-state imaging element comprises a light-receiving board and a logic board. In this solid-state imaging element, a plurality of avalanche photodiodes, each of which generates an electric current in response to impingement by photons, are positioned on the light-receiving board. In this solid-state imaging element, furthermore, a counter that counts the number of photons on the basis of the electric current of an avalanche photodiode selected among the plurality of avalanche photodiodes is positioned on the logic board.
