Abstract:
Disclosed is a spark plug that comprises an earth electrode joined to a noble metal chip by laser welding, wherein occurrence of dent in a fusion part between a joining site in the earth electrode body part and the noble metal chip is suppressed and, at the same time, oxidation at high temperatures in the earth electrode body part is improved.
The spark plug comprises an earth electrode body part having one end fixed to a main fitting and the other end facing a center electrode and also comprises a noble metal chip that has been welded through a laser beam or an electron beam to a position, in the earth electrode body part, which faces the front end of the center electrode. At least a site, to which the noble metal chip is joined, in the earth electrode body part comprises an alloy comprising 12 to 45% by mass of Cr, not more than 7% by mass of Fe, more than 0.5 to 5% by mass of Al, and more than 0.3 to 5% by mass of Si with the balance consisting of not less than 50% by mass of Ni.
