Abstract:
This imaging element is provided with: a two-dimensional pixel array in which a plurality of pixels including photoelectric conversion elements are arranged in an array on a substrate; a transparent layer formed on the two-dimensional pixel array; and a two-dimensional spectral element array in which a plurality of spectral elements are arranged in an array either within or on the transparent layer. Each of the spectral elements includes a plurality of fine structures formed from a material having a higher refractive index than the refractive index of the transparent layer. The plurality of fine structures have a fine structure pattern. Light incident on each of the spectral elements is separated thereby in accordance with wavelength range into first deflected light, second deflected light, third deflected light, and fourth deflected light each having a different propagation direction. First pixels, second pixels, third pixels, and fourth pixels adjacent to each other and directly below each of the spectral elements detect each of the first deflected light, the second deflected light, the third deflected light, and the fourth deflected light.
