A stabilizer device provided with a cylinder device having (a) a pair of torsion bars (hereinafter simply referred to as bars)(50) and (b) a piston (72) which is movably mounted in a housing and also having a liquid chamber (78) which is defined in the cylinder device and contains operating liquid, and the stabilizer device also provided with mechanisms (126, 132) for (c) positioning the piston at a movement end when the pair of bars is located at a neutral position, separating the piston from the movement end when the pair of bars separates from the neutral position, and causing the piston to approach the movement end when the pair of bars approaches the neutral position. The stabilizer device is adapted to be switchable between a state in which inflow and outflow of the operating liquid relative to the liquid chamber is permitted and movement of the piston in both directions is permitted and a state in which either of inflow or outflow of the liquid relative to the liquid chamber is permitted and movement of the piston only in the direction of approach to the movement end is permitted. The construction can prohibit relative rotation between the pair of bars when the pair is at the neutral position.
