Abstract:
Provided is steel for induction hardening that is less likely to develop cracks and has excellent hardness and anti-seizing properties, even when not tempered after induction hardening. The steel for induction hardening fulfills formula (1) and comprises, in percent by mass: 0.20-0.34% C, 0.20% or less Si, 0.75-2.0% Mn, 0.03% or less P, 0.20% or less S, 0.05-1.2% Cr, 0.002% to less than 0.030% Ti, 0.005-0.04% Al, and 0.0040-0.020% N, with the remainder comprising Fe and impurities. 1.20≦Mn+Cr≦2.10 (1). The amount of each chemical element (percent by mass) is substituted for each of the chemical symbols in the formula (1).
