Abstract:

Provided is a high strength steel sheet with excellent cryogenic toughness and ability to inhibit the occurrence of brittle cracks, presupposing production by an abridged process that utilizes direct quenching and tempering. This steel sheet has a prescribed component composition with a retained austenite content at 1/4t of less than 1.7% by volume fraction, and a Charpy absorbed energy at -196℃ of at least 200 J when a full-size test piece is used and at least 100 J when a half-size text piece is used.
