Abstract:
Provided is a steel wire for a mechanical structural component, said steel wire containing 0.05 mass%-0.60 mass% of C, 0.005 mass%-0.50 mass% of Si, 0.30 mass%-1.20 mass% of Mn, more than 0 mass% but no more than 0.050 mass% of P, more than 0 mass% but no more than 0.050 mass% of S, 0.001 mass%-0.10 mass% of Al, more than 0 mass% but no more than 1.5 mass% of Cr, and more than 0 mass% but no more than 0.02 mass% of N, the remainder thereof comprising iron and unavoidable impurities, wherein the x-ray diffraction peak half width in the (211) plane of ferrite grains is 0.500° or less, and the average circle-equivalent diameter of all cementite, when the quantity (mass%) of C in the steel is represented as [C], is (1.863-2.13[C]) μm or less.
