Abstract:
In order to reduce the weight of a rack housing while also ensuring durability, a steering apparatus 80 is provided with: a rack bar 30 that has a large-diameter section 31 and a small-diameter section 41 which have different maximum widths in a direction orthogonal to the lengthwise direction; a rack housing 10 that has a large-diameter housing section 11 in which a large-diameter through hole 12 is formed and a small-diameter housing section 21 in which a small-diameter through hole 22 that communicates with the large-diameter through hole 12 and has a smaller diameter than the large-diameter through hole 12 is formed, said rack housing 10 accommodating the rack bar 30; ball joints 50 that are positioned at the respective ends of the rack bar 30; and a stopper ring 60 that has a higher Young's modulus than the rack housing 10, is formed in a substantially annular shape, and is positioned on the opposite end of the large-diameter through hole 12 from the side where the small-diameter through hole 22 is positioned, wherein the large-diameter through hole 12 accommodates the large-diameter section 31 of the rack bar 30, and the small-diameter through hole 22 accommodates the small-diameter section 41 of the rack bar 30.
