Abstract:
To easily and reliably perform, with a saved space, operations of connecting an optical fiber and an optical module with each other. This optical module is provided with a connecting surface to which an optical connector is to be connected, and a first diffraction grating, which is provided at an end portion of a first optical waveguide, and which converts the optical axis direction of the first optical waveguide into the direction toward the optical connector. In the optical connector, a second optical waveguide is provided along the facing surface of the optical connector, said facing surface facing the connecting surface, and the optical connector is provided with a second diffraction grating, which is provided at an end portion of the second optical waveguide, and which converts the optical axis direction of the second optical waveguide into the direction toward the optical module. In a state wherein the optical module and the optical connector are mechanically connected to each other by having the facing surface of the optical connector face the connecting surface of the optical module, the first diffraction grating and the second diffraction grating face each other, and are optically coupled to each other.
