Abstract:
A sub-chamber combustion four-stroke engine (1) includes a sub-chamber (20) that is in communication with a main combustion chamber (2) via a plurality of communication holes (21) and has an inner space into which a part of a sub-chamber spark plug (23) is exposed and a suction path jetting valve (8) that jets fuel to the suction path (5), and does not include an ignition assist device that assists ignition of air-fuel mixture. The length of the larger one of a length (L1) in a plug axial direction (DP) of the inner space of the sub-chamber and a maximum length (L2) in a direction orthogonal to the plug axial direction of the inner space of the sub-chamber is smaller than twice the length of the smaller one thereof. When seen in the plug axial direction, an angle θ formed by a line segment (LSa) connecting a central axis line (C23) of the sub-chamber spark plug and a center (C3a) of the suction port with respect to a central axis line (C21ia) of a first suction hole (21ia) that is any one of the plurality of communication holes (21) satisfies -17° <θ < 17°. In a cross section cut off by a plane including the central axis line of the first suction hole in parallel with a central axis line (C11) of a cylinder hole (11), the central axis line of the first suction hole passes through between the first suction port and a valve head (14) of the suction valve during opening of the suction valve (13) that opens/closes the first suction port.
